Not fair, Dale.
You probably looked at your 100th Ammiverserary
34OT 2004 copyright date then counted backards 5 yrs.

Here's one I got from a cCc member in a trade, whittler kit
with a stockman in it. Go figure.

And a USA made DU Greenwing 36OT.
Other few GWs I've seen were made in Ireland.
Looks like time to do a better job detailing it and a reshoot to me.

Here's a new shot of Greenwing 36OT,
still having trouble getting all the junk out of sawcut
grooves around shield but other than that it's looking
fairly decent imho.

These seem to verify that in general, and with some exceptions, the darker dyes were used later. There are a couple, very dark, and bright green, that seem to be later revivals of the Walden stamping. If Schrade could still do peachseed while in business, it's a shame they didn't keep a high grade line going. Or maybe the bone is old stock, or was reproduced by an outside contractor. This little exercise has created more questions than it has answered, for me anyway.

Sorry to dig up something so far back, but I noticed that the oddball green one looks like the jigging goes into both handle pins. Is this just an illusion or what gives? Mark

Yes, that's true Charlie, and the jigging does not extend into the bolsters or pins at all. It's a very nicely finished knife.

I have Eric to thank for this one also. I had given him first choice of a few knives that were available because we both wanted the same one. I picked two others instead, and Eric suggested I not pass up this green bone one as a third. I'm glad he did, because it's a beaut.

If I recall correctly what Eric had to say about it was, that Schrade didn't make very many of these, and would include one with certain orders as kind of a ' cracker box prize.'

It looks like a soft buffing wheel did gouge the rivets a bit. Brass is a lot softer than bone.

Thanks for checking back Fran!

The recent Ebay find is interesting.
While not near mint, it is in great shape, with nice bone handles, and firm snap on all blades. Also relatively rare with, as Schrade called them, "oblique" bolsters. Less than 1/16" shy of 4", the model number is 08883 in the 1926 catalog, page 48.
I am debating whether to fix the edges a bit, and carry the knife, as it feels so good in hand and in pocket. I often debate with myself when I get a nice used oldie like this, because as most of you know, I am reluctant to change history. I would certainly keep as much patina as possible. Whuddaya think??

HUH! In the middle knife on the top row which I THINK is the one we are talking about here I see the outline of a pin in the upper bolster.

I thought Schrades were not made like that?

Sounds like you're talking about the Swinden system? If so that system was only used on knives of more recent manufacture and still involved pinning the bolsters, just in a different way. I'm sure a Schrade expert will be along to elaborate.

That's a nice find upnoth! I'd say carry it if you want to, it was made to be carried and doing so would do it honor in my opinion! After all, in the end what are they worth if you can't fully enjoy them?

Charlie, that one begs to be carried, very nice example!!

Dave, the Swinden system was patented in 1961, and I think it took a couple more years before it showed up in the knives. Any Schrade knife previous to that was pinned traditionally, and some Schrades were still pinned through bolsters afterward as well.

Nice snag there Charlie. I had that one on my watch list and I'm pleased to know it has found a home with you. I suspect ole Bob (whoever he is/was) would be glad as well. He obviously took good care of that knife.

Here's a couple I got not too long ago. They been used a lot and the file blade on the senator has been ground to regular blade. But hey, I only paid $10 for the both of them together. Thought they were kind of cool.
