Snagged this recently, and it's a decent old knife. I like the big wide spear, the red bone, the EZO. Love the jigging and large nail nick. It has been buffed hard though, and the crisp edges have been rounded off. Tight and rock solid, blades seem full and near original except for the excessive buffing.

Nice ol EZ Open knife.
Circa 1948 to 1960.
Robeson’s beautiful and yet to be duplicated Strawberry Bone.
I understand that I’m looking at photos and not the knife, but I’m curious why you think the knife has been heavily buffed.
I have seen and owned many Robeson knives from this period and a good many of them got a heavy buffing at the factory.
I have a Strawberry Bone Daddy Barlow that my dad bought new in the 1950’s and the final polish almost obliterated half the tang stamp.
Your knife mighht be in better condition than you think.

Thanks for the info on the buffing. It might have been at the factory, I don't know, just observed. But it has rounded off the spine and the crisp edges on the stamp. The edge does not look factory, it looks buffed recently. A buffed rounded edge usually doesn't come from the factory. The bevel is so rounded off it looks like it has none. And the brass liners and pins look too shiney for this age, they would have tarnished more. Definitely has been shined up. IMHO anyway, from what my eyes tell me. None of my other Robesons have these characteristics anyway, that is what makes me suspect something has been done to it post factory. But this is just my assessment from what little I know about it. No expert here, just an observer. Thanks again for your insight. Appreciate the comments.

Thanks, Ike, I have something similar but not nearly as elegant as the little swell center that you are showing.
Bone, shield, swell center, spear, it's hard to keep up and everything to love about that one.

No? Then..........it must be fake?
Edit: Forgive my attempt at humor, Charlie. On a serious note, about how many Robeson patterns would you say that there were? I would assume that there were only a few that you
didn't own.

Not sure I am qualified to answer that question.
If you know, as I do, that some patterns were duplicated with simple differences, such as a spear instead of a clip and only a suffix added to the pattern number, such as -/4, 1:2, 550, 75, 100, 125 or 150 and changes in handle material or the addition of a bail or replacement of a secondary pen with a file or vice versa, the potential count increases exponentially.
Terrier was a second premium brand that Robeson only made for six years. I know they did not make a corresponding Terrier for every pattern of Robeson. And I have a Terrier display case that held sixty folding knives.
And there is no telling how many Roobeson knives I’ve seen that I never had.

Beautiful Robesons Ivory Man and Ike
Here are a couple of Robeson Demonstrators I have acquired recently. The one on top is a 3 & 3/8 inch pen knife or senator if you like and the other is a 3 inch split back whittler pattern.
