Cal that looks like a different frame. Maybe it could be a camillus or other with those blades stuck in from an 881 or such.

This will make you all cry.
I coughed up five bucks for this senior for the express purpose of giving it an honorable retirement. It’s been someone’s best friend, and for quite a long time.
I know it’s likely post- 1940’s, but how old is it?
The blades are done, but the scales are pretty good. At least it looks nice closed!

Hi Ann, can you read the tang stamp - That may help to work out its' age...zoogirl wrote:This will make you all cry.

The 77OT Muskrat was made from 1986 to 2002.
The Schrade 787 Muskrat [with Walden tang stamp] is Pre: 1970.
I would think, your knife was made mid 60's to about 1973..Ken

So, everyone wandered away! I’m still curious about this ones age. It’s an ‘Improved Muskrat’, if that helps, and there’s no ‘Walden’ to be seen. It certainly looks old.

That stamp could only exist from 1973 to 1983 in the Schrade catalogs for that particular pattern, but it may be possible to further fine-tune it by someone here. The Delrin plastic handles could not be older than 1960, but that fact is secondary to the stamp. The "Improved Muskrat" etch was used off and on on their muskrats from before WWII to possibly as late as the bankruptcy in 2004.zoogirl wrote:So, everyone wandered away! Ulster 99P - Not an easy knife to find! The pattern was first made for Belknap and Shapleigh before bearing the Ulster stamp. A few years later those grooved obliques popped up on the first Buck 301s.

Re: Schrade 4" knives - Post them here.
I picked up this grundgy 99P early this month and have been working off and on trying to clean it up. I had to send off for some 40 grit sanding discs for my Dremel tool just to grind down to something shiny. Chunks of rust and black stuff on the inside and the joints were almost seized up. Worst blades I've ever dealt with. I'd need a belt sander to even come close to getting those deep blemishes out. Too much metal to remove. The 'cool' factor and rarity of the 99P made me buy it anyway. Yours is a beauty!jxr1197 wrote:Ulster 99P - Not an easy knife to find! I only found the 99P in catalogs and price lists from 1960 to 1965. I don't have access to 1966 and I didn't find them later. So, 6 or 7 years? My earliest knowledge of this pattern is from the Schrade Cut Co catalog of 1936, #8814. They came in different colors, including yellow.

Your 99P is looking a lot better in the after pics.Mustanger wrote:I picked up this grundgy 99P early this month and have been working off and on trying to clean it up. Here's a group pic. I'm still searching for that Keen Kutter.

Thanks for that information and the picture! Great knives!jxr1197 wrote:

In the 50's Ulster was making the Primble 5371 and Keen Kutter K323 and their popularity inspired the 99P, which strikes me as backwards somehow. When you line them up and start comparing the knives the Primble and 99 have some differences. The shape and thickness of the springs are different with the Primble being nearly identical to the Ulster 98 and the 99 almost identical to the later Buck 301s.

One of my very favorite knives that enamores me every time I look at it. The red peachseed is very pretty. Build quality and condition is top tier. Just a great 4'' stockman.

Paul's Craftsman sets the high water mark for the thread - wow! The knife, that color - even the pic are all perfect.
