This Wostenholm shows all the evidence of being from the 19th century.It is contrary to all the other IXLs I have,in that it is about 1/16" shorter than the others, a little over 3 7/8".

I think this pattern was smaller earlier.

Here's a couple more early ones.
I'll show this Holley Nuseryman,which is somewhere in this time frame. 3 3/4"

Last is a Fabyan 3 7/8" c.1896 ,thanks to Mike L
"Well Known" is stamped in a scroll on the primary blade.My stamp is almost gone,but I've posted what it looked like originally from another knife.

Three great additions to this thread, Lyle. The stag they used to use on the older Sheffield knives is my favorite stag.

Thanks, Dan. That would be a really interesting thread, but I agree with you. Probably only a handful of people would have anything to post. I imagine almost all the knives would be English-made as well.

Here is one I posted before in a group shot.I recently dug it out and started cleaning it up a bit to use.From many sharpenings the point of the blade was standing proud so a little massaging with my belt sander cured that problem.The blade was in very rough shape so I smoothed it a bit with some 220 grit wet-or-dry paper and finished it off with some 400.Although the blade has half stops,the opening and closing is very easy. Not the prettiest knife on the block but it will shave the hair off your arm and then some.
Stamped American Knife Co Plymouth this dates to before 1875.
