My thanks also Ann. When in her early twenties my mother won an Ida Lupino look-alike contest, after her sisters submitted pictures of her to the contest, unbeknownst to her. My dad teased her about it the rest of her life.

Ha! Well, as it happens, one of my all time favourite movies is “They Drive By Night” starring a murderous Ida!
I used to get Barbra Streisand all the time. Not so much now with the red hair!

I’ll start with me and Mom, when I was nineteen days old.

Yes, I know it’s in b&w.
The next one will be my dad and a decent catch. It’s probably early or mid ‘60s.

After that is Mom in about 1935,

then Dad and me. I’m about two.

Next is Dad and his father and my uncles Ken, Merchant Marine and Norm, Canadian Navy. This would have been WW2. Dad didn’t serve for medical reasons but he drive truck for a factory that made deck gun parts. He’s got the moustache.

The last pic of Dad’s side is my grandmother and Aunts, Helen and Madge, late 1920’s

Back to Moms side, here’s me and my grandmother when I was about a year old and last is my grandfather in his police uniform.

Very nice family pictures, Ann.
Your mother is quite lovely too and the men appear honorable and forthright.

Thank you!
My grandfather on Dad’s side had quite a life. He came to Canada in 1894 as a ten year old ‘Home Child’. These were orphan or poor English kids, who mostly ended up as house servers or farm workers. I’ve done some research. About six months before he sailed, there is a marriage listed for someone with his dad’s name. My guess is that the new stepmom is the one that wanted to shop him off, but...
When Grandpa got to Canada, he was claimed as an in-law by someone with the stepmoms last name. I don’t actually know whether she wanted to get rid of him or they saw a chance to give him a start in Canada. I never met him. Missed by three months. The aunts and uncles are long gone and the cousin I’ve talked to doesn’t know.
A family mystery!

I do. In this property in Greece our family has a wall full of family pictures. And it's really to look at. Someday I want to organise it in a way of a family tree so it will look even more better. We have about 40 pictures right now and will be more.

Zoogirl,
I particularly enjoy the image of your Dad with his salmon. If I am not mistaken, the background is the Burrard Street Bridge crossing False Creek. I worked summers at the Burrard Home Oil fuel barge under that bridge in the late 60s. Your photo shows the BC Hydro building as the only tall structure, so it must be very early 60s. My, how Vancouver has changed! And, IMHO, not for the better.....
Off to look for sharp, pointy foldy things. :D

I think you’re right. Uncle Ken had a boat somewhere down there. I remember being out somewhere off Stanley Park in it.

A couple more fish tales!
The little one won the Domtar Derby that year. It was the only salmon caught!
I think Dad and his prize are likely on Uncle Kens boat in the next pic.

Time to wake up this old thread since I found a few more old family pictures. First is my maternal great-grandparents with their 10 children. My grandmother is fourth from the right in the picture, just behind her father’s left shoulder. I’m guessing this was taken around 1900 or thereabouts.

Next are my great-grandparents with three of my great-uncles, several years later, probably late 1920s.

That is a really cool picture Ken!
I love the "young man" in the front row, right with his vest and watch chain showing. He is looking rather dapper!

Here are some pics of my Father in law from WWII. The first one is with his two brothers. He is sitting on the lap of his older brother Charles. The one on the right is the younger brother Ralph. Don't know who the other guy is. The second Pic he was in the field with some buds. The last pic is my sweet mother at 18 years old in 1948.
