I'm kinda new around here, but I'd like to post a some pics of The Schrade 787 Improved Muskrat. My late Granddaddy carried one and Schrade was his favorite brand to carry.

Hi guys, I carried a SCHRADE LB7 for many years as an every day tool, but I also have a few other SCHRADE Knives.
I was referred over here by Tongueriver. (THANKS for the link)
I can see myself spending a bit of time over here drooling over some of the fine knives. Might even learn something while I'm at it.

How about this one. It's a 601 I think, complete with tin showing the old Schrade factory on it's lid, and unopened in the blister pack.

Welcome to AAPK and the hangout of Uncle Henry's misguided nephews.
The knife in the tin is an 881. I have one like it. I took mine out of the plastic so I could close it and take the stress off the springs.

The 601 number jumped out at me because of the 6. I got to thinking and found it strange that there are few Schrade knives who have a number that starts with the numeral 6.
There is the 61OT, Slim Premium Stock pattern, the 6OT and the 6OTX in four colors. Strange isn't it that of the hundreds of Schrades patterns numbers, only 3 start with the number 6. I can't think of any others that have a 6 as the first digit of the model number.
It must be getting late if those sort of strange things are popping out at me.

Most of my 881s have "Schrade N.Y.U.S.A. 881" or "schrade Walden N.Y.U.S.A 881" stamped on the blades.
I also have a "schrade Walden N.Y.U.S.A 881Y" (Yellow scales)
My every day knife, is the same old 881- with the match-strik pull - I have been using since 1971.
Dale, is the 881 in the tin, a latter release? and dose it have stainless blades? ... Ken

Yeah, I was corrected about the number on the other forum as well.
881 it is then. I had a real hard time making out those tiny numbers through the plastic, so I tried to get a closer shot of it here.

Now you've got me wondering if maybe I should remove mine from it's plastic prison so I can close it?

The 881 in the tin is a very late release, perhaps the last year (? I am speculating). And it is stainless. In fact, I believe all the formerly non-stainless knives had gone to stainless in the last year or so before the bankruptcy, but did not always add the "plus" sign to the stamp. I am speculating a little here also; don't take this for gospel.

My every-day-user I have had since 1971 has carbon blades (I have posted with some more of my pre 1973 - 881 knives)
I also note: the shild is not stamped "Schrade" on my old user.
