Comfort Knives!

Thanks Mark. Been catching up with some of the cool knives you've been posting. It's a shame you have to worry about your own Government stealing your knives. You do manage to come up with some interesting knives though.

I had a bit of a surprise when I got today's mail and found this knife in my box. I was surprised because of the way this knife operates I thought I might lose it to Customs, but after the trouble I had figuring out exactly how it works I doubt they even figured out how to open it. It's a CRKT Kommer Compact 2 Fulcrum-Release linerlock, and it's 6 1/2" oal/black coated SS drop-point blade, SS cross-cut textured bolsters, blue and white translucent covers, screw construction, and a pocket-clip. Has a nice weight of 2.5 oz.'s, and arrived very sharp. It shows CRKT markings and patent number. To release the blade you must push forward on the front cover and the blade will propel out of the channel about 25%, and from there you pull back on the same cover and the blade flies up and open into the locking position. To close you simply push the single-liner to the side and the blade unlocks and closes. I've included pics trying to show the process. Thanks for your comments Smitty. Unfortunately, my copy is very hard to get started initially and it deprives me of some of the fun in opening this knife. And it certainly couldn't be accomplished at all with slippery thumbs, but it was cheap and it fills a space in my display.

I haven't posted in this thread for about a month as I've been re-thinking my buying strategy, but I received a couple today that I've wanted for awhile. I'll post 1 today, and 1 tomorrow! First up is a Lionsteel 7" oal "Thrill" model/M390 drop-point blade with ambie n/n's, black textured aluminum covers, adjustable pivot, and unique pocket-clip release system. Made in Maniago, Italy. Has a light weight of only 2.4 oz.'s, but arrived crazy-sharp. Excellent F+F, as well as W+T! To deploy the p/c you must press-in on the shield located at the butt-end on the mark side, and the spring loaded clip will rise-up for clipping or simply fall back in flush into the cover on the pile side upon release on the shield.(See 3rd pic!)I'll post the other knife tomorrow, as well as some autos I have coming when they arrive!

For a great many years I carried my Old Timer USA 34OT but my arthritis finally made it too uncomfortable to handle so I updated the handle size and shape of my carry to a Victorinox Recruit. Love the Recruit; right number of blades, right blade shapes and most useful tool selection for my daily routine. Had some concern about the scales but that ABS plastic takes a beating, it shows a ton of scratches but no evidence of cracking or warping.

Hey Kerry! Thanks for your well-wishes man, and you hit the nail right on the head, "life has been getting in the way of fun"! Just been dealing with "stuff" and it takes a toll on my psych and wears me out. I'm working on making the necessary adjustments so I can be my old cherry self again soon. Your description of the pictured knife is also spot-on, nice clean lines and feels very substantial in-hand. Good hearing from you bud!

Thanks Smitty! I'd wanted those 2 models from L/S for close to a year, and was finally able to pull the trigger for them. The Thrill feels as clean as it looks, and since I've never been a fan of pocket-clips that spring-loaded one just tickles me pink. I'm really liking the Bestman too, M390 steel, Titanium hardware, and carbon fiber covers, my perfect EDC. Good talkin' to ya!

Hey M61! It sounds like you really come to appreciate a good quality knife. Those OT'ers are built about as well as any knife out there, barring customs, of course, and I'd bet green money there are still a lot of older ones in use today, which is confirmed by the copy you own. I've been fortunate enough to have not suffered yet from arthritis, but I have enough seniors problems as it is, so I feel lucky to have dodged that one(so far)!

I received this Cold Steel "Holdout" today, so it stands to reason that it's my comfort knife for the day! This monster is a 13 1/2" oal mid-lockback/4-mm S35VN blade with dual-studs, black textured G-10 covers with through holes, adjustable pivot, screw construction, and pocket-clip. Fairly heavy at about 7.4 oz.'s, and arrived C/S sharp. Showing C/S markings, and built in Taiwan. I was expecting a larger knife, but this baby is HUGE!

This cool little folder arrived today, and it's providing me plenty of comfort already! It's a Fury made in Japan 7" oal mid-lockback slip-joint/440 stainless spear-point blade with n/n, NS bolsters, brass liners and pins, and beautiful Walnut covers. Weighs-in at 3.5 oz.'s, and came factory sharp. A nice addition to my "Unusual" pile, that had a particularly satisfying twist, in that, even though Customs inspected the knife they had no choice but to release it due to it being a true 2-handed slip-joint! The Good Guys 1, Customs Clowns too many!

Nice looking folder Marc. I wonder if that is the same Fury brand that made a lot of Balisong knives back in the 1980's. They were made by made by Tak Fukuta in Seki Japan.
