That is amazing picture dogleg. They must be use to people being around. I had one growl at me once. I was squirrel hunting and it was in a tree behind me. I never will forgot the shiver that went down my spine when it growled. lol

They are use to seeing people. That is quite the experience having one growl at you.

Saw this on the mail route today. It was trying to follow momma, but could not get up the steep bank and decided to just be still. I still enjoy seeing the little ones in June every year. (as long as I don't hit one)

Dan-I was not there long but momma never left. No sign today so I would guess all is well.

Well sir, I was about to post this up when I saw your question. Right now I have them laid out on some wire cages under the lean to on my shop. I’ll let the tops dry up for a few days and then I’ll cut them off 4 inches or up from the bulb. Enough so that the onion won’t rot. When they’re good and dry I put them in mesh laundry bags and store them out in the shop. We’ll eat what we want or until we get down to enough to replant come November. As to taste, they’re very savory, almost like meat when cooked. I’ve been told they’re kind of half way between onions and shallots. I know this though, when you cut a raw one, you’ll think your eyeballs are turning inside out!

One of my momma’s brothers-in-law got me to raising them several years ago. He lost all his the same year I lost almost all of mine. Now as far as I’ve been able to sus out I’m the last one raising them in my neck of the woods. Hopefully one of my boys will keep them going when I’m gone.

those look like some nice cookin onions ...i'd like to give them a try i like all different kind of onions i had some small hot onions a couple years ago that would ruin anything you cooked with them..they went in the mulch pile and thrived for awhile

This ole boy a few minutes ago, was checking out the corn and somebody up the road started shooting a gun just as I was gonna take a picture, he runs off but toward the gunfire he stops and looks toward the noise and I snapped a couple not very good as he was pretty far away. He didn't seem very afraid of the gunfire so I figure he'll be in the skillet when the hunting season gets here.
