Just found a very good YouTube clip. The End Of The Cattle Drive-Jerry Skinner. Most interesting, and some of the comments below were good reading.

Colonel - those tater onions look good. I had to look up tater onion. As I understand it, the tater onions reproduce by making a bunch of secondary bulbs which you can then replant. Sounds like a good way to grow onions. I grow a few onions in a little bed, but it would be nice to have a variety that makes bulbs to replant. I have not had a lot of luck with replanting the root end of an onion.
Yes sir, that’s how it happens. The old rule of thumb was plant them the first of November and dig them the first of June. You want to grow twice as many as you need. The big ones when planted will produce 6 or more small “sets” and the little sets will produce two or so big onions. So if you plan half and half you’re good.Dinadan wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 11:02 pmColonel - those tater onions look good. I had to look up tater onion. Does outdoor cooking qualify for the Outdoorsman thread? My brother and his wife raised chickens and had them butchered recently, so I decided to fry a whole one up in the turkey cooker with some wings. 6 lb bird cooked at 325° for 30 minutes, did the wings for 15 minutes. Dry rubbed the chicken and wings prior to frying, turned out deliciously perfect. Crispy skin and moist on the inside.![]()
