Scott, glad to see that you are still after it with those young men! Hopefully they will catch a lifelong affection for being outdoors.

John. I have no clue. 🤔😟
John 🎅
I think, best guess from pictures, that the tree is an American Hornbeam. I see them here and they have a similar appearance. I think the woods of our respective areas have similar species, John.

Good series of pics, John! Were you solo? Nice that you went to the trouble of setting the table, er I mean rock, for lunch. I am more of an apple or orange guy when I am out walking, a few cheese slices or a meat stick on rare occasions. Then again, my walks are usually less than 2 hours, I think you are probably just getting warmed up after a couple hours. :o

John,
The woods in the north are so different than what we experience here in West Florida. Most natural woodlands here, are so thick you can't see 50 yards ahead.
Always beautiful scenery in your pictures! ::tu::

He's moved on to other interests. Still stops by now and then to catch up on everyone, just doesn't post.

Hey fellas! Haven't visited the thread here for a bit, thought I'd share a recent find. Was out taking care of bees yesterday and thought I saw some bones off the hill. Took a stroll down there and found this guy.
No history with this one so was surprised to see him here.
Kinda bitter sweet to have this season after my oh so close encounter with a giant earlier this season that didn't pan out.
Season still going but those old boys are getting tough to run in to with a bow and arrow this late. Be making a few moves yet this year but not many. Got a cape in the freezer and probably use it for this find. Lots of character on him.
