I cant speak for the dedicated kimber .22 1911's (I'm sure they are great, haven't met a kimber I didn't like) but I do have a full size conversion kit for my Super Match II and it is very accurate. If I was doing it I would buy a .45 and get a conversion kit. They're set up with full length guide rods so you can swap the uppers out in about 10 seconds (literally), only about $3-400 more and you have the option of going back to the .45 (or .40 or 9mm or whatever if that's your thing) if you ever want to and the .22 upper makes a good training unit if both your slides have similar sights (mine do). Pro mag makes a reliable 14 round replacement mag too. I really couldn't justify a .22 1911 that I couldn't swap uppers on, really limits the possibilities. I'm gonna get a compact kit once they hit the market.

That Super Match II is a superior pistol,
I had a Gold Cup and I loved it until I met the Kimber.

Still not convinced on conversion kits,
I enjoy my dedicated .22s and mainly shoot these over my other pistols.

Anyone have a chance to shoot or handle the FNH 5.7 X 28mm? Would like to hear about it if you have.

Handled one at the hardware store today. Extremely light at 1.4 pounds. Wicked little round. Holds 20 rounds per magizine and it came with 3 mags. Not cheap at 1200 bucks?

Very comfortable in my hand. Two downfalls for me is striker versus hammer and the location of the safety is very strange, mounted halfway up the gun toward the barrel.

I picked up this Mossberg 702 plinkster the other day, the price was right on sale and its a great little gun for target shooting

A neat looking rifle. Looks like it would be very quick handling and if the accuracy is good you have a winner.

The two I shot were the Five-seven IOM and the USG. I got to put about 200 rounds through the first one (IOM) and about 1k through the USG. Range time with the pistol seemed to elicit jokes about "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century."

I'm not a fan of the design of the pistol, part of that is probably the lack of familiarity with it. Unlike my usual handguns, I kept having to stop and think about how it worked. Recoil wasn't bad, muzzle blast (light and noise) were quite noticeable: it was as bad as, or worse than, a CZ-52 shooting milsurp ammo. You could probably see that muzzle blast from space! Nice flat trajectory and decent accuracy.

That said, I didn't care for the ballistics. It amounted to little more than 22 Mag ballistics (more properly, roughly equal to .22 Mag rifle ballistics). I did some hunting with it; from the PA (perforation analysis) it seemed to perform about like a .22 Hornet. Perfectly adequate for coyotes, jackrabbits, etc--I twice managed to tumble running jacks--but rather destructive on small game, and underpowered for large game.

Most folks aren't going to be looking at it as hunting pistol, or a target pistol. I really think this one is going to mostly remain a military and collectors' pistol. As a defensive pistol for a civilian, there are better choices. I've no doubt that with practice a guy could quickly get several hits, and that several hits would probably result in the cessation of hostilities (at least from that assailant). I've heard it has been approved for some of the action pistol games, and it might do well there. (I can see the headlines now: The Ultimate Gamer's Pistol?)

The cost breakdown is going to be a factor as well. Even at current gradually-returning-closer-to-normal prices, an FN Five-seveN set up with five mags, and 1,000 rounds of cheap FMJ ball-type ammo, will run about $2,000 plus taxes etc. A Glock 17--roughly comparable in size, and with a 17 round mag vs. the Five-seven's 20 round mag--with the same magazine/ammo setup will run about half that. I didn't see anything that would make it worth double the cost to me. It might be just what the doctor ordered if I lived in Mogadishu, the Helmand Province, or on a ranch along the Rio Grande. (But I'd probably still take the Glock, and I'm not a Glock fan.)

This is one my favorite rifles to shoot, a real tack driver!

Camillus, Gino both very fine .22's. I'm way more of a shotgun guy (Ithaca 37's) but I have a soft spot for old .22 rifles. Very nice!

Here's mine. It's a 1935 Marlin 81. It has a steel butt plate, 7 round mag, and will feed shots, longs, and long rifles. I love this rifle. Best $110 I ever spent on a gun.

Here's one of my latest Ithaca 37 shotguns. It's a 1949 model 37R 12 gauge. That means it has a solid rib.

Other than the 95%+ condition, the thing that makes it really unique is that not only is it a solid rib, but it has a factory 30 inch modified choked barrel.

I wonder just who special ordered it this way in 1949? If guns could talk!

Blue, in my ignorance I had to google the 870. It must be highly thought of because there are vast home defence/military/police options for the thing. Including a pump pistol. Real crime stoppers.

Joe, this one will hold six 2 3/4" shells in the magazine tube. The buttstock is a Magpul MOE, the fore grip is from the Mako group, and the flashlight is a Streamlight TL-3.
The shotgun was a 1960s era Remington 870 Wingmaster. (still is I reckon) It originally had a poly-choke and a bead front sight, but someone chopped that off to 19 inches long before I got it. Even with no front sights, I can hit a deer-sized target at 50 yards with 00 buckshot.

Question----For all you ""hunters / shooters""

Since re-entering the ""deer hunting crowd"" this year, after a 35 year absence,---I have been reading a ""LOT"" on the Nosler Partition Ammo,and can really find nothing bad about it ***** I am only reading ""GOOD"" about the high %% ""drop on the spot kill"" of this bullet ( if a good shot placement)

___I am hunting with a Remington 25-06 ( I have knilled a small buck & doe,so far,using soft-tip ( 100gr.Remington Core-Lokt)- both ran aprox. 100 / 150 yds. before dropping ) ----- the most highly reccomended load is 115gr. Nosler,which is really hard to find locally***** I just found two (2) boxes, on line (bought both) @ $47 per box of 20*** High price ammo !!!!!________ I will be hunting with these,but just wanted your thoughts***Are they that much better ???? Monk, since you shoot one of the faster Wildcat calibers, it's not uncommon for the bullet to pass through at such high velocity, the animal can bounce off a short distance as the high velocity small grain bullet doesn't do the kind of damage that a larger caliber would. I shoot a fairly high velocity short action 7mm-08 most times for deer and have had excellent results with Winchester Ballistic SilverTip ammunition. There are a lot of great choices out there, but this cartridge is very hard to beat imo.
