All About Pocket Knives

Thanks guys. Lost a good friend last year that got me started carving. I haven't had the desire to carve as much as I did. I like seeing everyone's work here. Nice variety of different carvings!

Sorry about the loss. The guy who mentored me is getting up in age and is having a hard time carving. He relies on selling ornaments at Christmas as a part of his income, so I’m helping him out this year. I enjoy carving and am very happy to be able to help but the repetition is boring. I was actually logging on to post a pic when I saw your reply.

Thanks guys. He taught me a lot and he and his wife are good people so I’m glad I have the ability/ skill to support them.

My Dad did 2, one for a lady who wanted to give her Dads .22 to her Grandson. I think it was vines and grapes? And the other was a deer on his own Marlin. He said he would not do another. Both were extremely dry and difficult to carve.

I don’t mean to discourage you, but dont plan anything too complicated either. Most rifle stocks are easily replaced if you need too.

I’m thinking my kids are going to fight over his rifle. I think I’ve posted it before.

I’ve carved hard wood before and it can be a challenge for sure.

Still helping carve ornaments. I have made 5 more of the hooded, 9 of the short faced ones and the 2 cowboys today(1 all today the other mostly done last night). I have 6 more cowboy Santa’s to go.

Skip I must have over cooked them because that are dang hard!!

Still carving ornaments (end is in sight for now I hope) and had a little break on the cowboy hat brim. Had to do a little revamp into a Dapper Santa. The other pic is one I was able to knock out at work during a slow winters day. The knives in the pic are all that was used in the carving to that point(I use gouges for hair detail most of the time).

A good start on Christmas!
I added to the snowman carvings. I've had a few people interested in buy a few. Postage is the killer. It's gotten so expensive. These have been fun and gotten me back to feeling like carving.

Glad to see you carving. I’ve done about 30 of the ones I’m doing now(3 different styles) and it’s burning me out a bit, but I’m doing it to help out a friend.
