Hi John.. Thanks.. Yes Mary Ann is going along but not hiking.. I am not backpacking this.. She will drop me off in the am and pick me up in the pm.. We are staying at hotels, Inns and such..

A few pics of recent hikes.
Every year I put a 500mile goal for my self but keep missing.
This year looks the best as I have 125miles so far and am doing a 286mile hike starting in May. Going from the Pa-NY line thru Pa to the Ohio-Pa line. Should be 4-5 weeks on the trail. Hopefully my knees and hips hold out!!

Thanks, John! DLT shows the Wrights, but none are in stock. I've added it to the long list of fixed blades I hope to try.

Yes indeed. I do love a good desert landscape (of course, the same can be said for most landscapes that were not created by man).

You nailed it Dan. I live 2 hours east of Reno in the high desert.
I have been gifted to travel all over the US and a few other continents. All unique and beautiful. Only exceptions are place stupid people abuse or lazily throw trash around, etc.
Tahoe just east of Reno is stunning. I do love the mountains and woods as well.

Funny local saying here that "Reno is where the green meets the brown".
Obviously reference to coming out of beautiful Sierra Mountains into the high desert.
Plenty green here until summer. Wildflowers, multitude of solitary outdoor activities, aspen micro-climates, you name it.

I am here till they kick me out or put me in the ground.

We had our first hen sighting inside the Beltway last Sunday. About 100 yards from our building. My wife did a little video.

We lost some power to a Public Safety site at work. Seems some errantly connected power to some devices not on generator so up we went in rain and mud.
Had to try. Fishtail for about 3 miles, not bad until mud got deeper and we got sucked into rut on passenger side that a neighboring flooded stream overflowed into.

Not pictured as mud to deep to walk. Passenger side buried to sidestep.

Miraculously, able to back up and get turned around. Crazy drive. We 4 WD up some mountain almost weekly or more. Most insane 4 wheeling we have done.

I am not sure why Jerry, but as I see the terrain challenges you confront I've begun thinking of you as a modern cowboy. That is intended as a compliment.

We have certain dirt roads we use for feeding the cows all Winter and they can get mudded out pretty badly. I remember helping my dad as a youth hauling tv sized rocks out, and when dropped in they would disappear. Not these flat-screen size tvs either. We never actually got a two wheel drive tractor stuck, but it was close sometimes.

Taken as a compliment Garry. Absolutely fun John! One of the perks of my job for me. 4WD, Snowcat and UTV to some very adverse driving conditions and beautiful mountain tops and scenery.
I have been driving on personal and work time in this desert in all sorts of vehicles for 26 years. Mainly, good beefy 4WD trucks. Every type of road conditions known to man. Snow, drifts, large rocks, mud, silt (bug dust), gnarly inclines, "perfect storms" of multiple combinations of what I listed and more. Never once got stuck or disabled/ needed to be pulled out, etc.
Yesterday, seems like my clean streak was over. Was actually stunned I got out with passengers side step buried in mud. I got out, paused to think about plan, snapped those pics and got back in.
I was able to reverse about 100 yards with mudded out window visibility until that mud rut let go of the truck and crank wheel left to slingshot up hillside to hard ground. Drive 3 mudded miles back to hard dirt road.
On my personal drives in desert. Beers would have flowed at that point.

As if yesterday wasn't enough...

Windshield blinding puddles and light mud in the Raptor this morning. The variance of road conditions always amazes me. This was a watery mud versus thick like yesterday. Fun stuff.

Adrenaline beats coffee any day...

I've been able to land a few fish at the pond in the last few days.
That little Bass in the last picture was too cute.
All of these fish were released easily from a barbless hook.

Thanks Jerry.
That fish is a Chain Pickerel about 15" long.
There are 3 Pickerel: Two small species, a Grass Pickerel and a Red Fin Pickerel. I think both max out at 12", so I've read.
And the Chain Pickerel which can go to 36" in older fish. I have caught them up to approximately 24" in ponds up on Cape Cod.
They don't stop fighting.
