All About Pocket Knives

I came across an all metal folding knife that 3 segments, the blade and 2 stamped metal segments that enclose the blade. It has the initials stamped in it "M.S.A.CO" on one side and "Safety" on the other. Anybody know about this knife? approx. value? the knife is in good used condition.

I dont have alot of info but heres what I know, hope its useful. Marble's Safety Axe Co = M.S.A made in Gladstone MI, 1898-present , as far as value I'd say a picture would be nice some of these guys on here know there stuff about knives. One of my books states "very collectable" thats about all I know other than the new Marbles Knives have been shipped over seas which means yours should have a fair value. If I can help more just ask......

Sounds like it's the M.S.A. Marbles Safety Carving Knife 1906-1915. Dunathans Book on Marbles lists it as high as $1,200.00, in excellent condition.

Now I REALLY want to see a picture!!!

hard to say without pictures... probably a folding fish knife....does it have a fish scaler on the spine?

Welcome to AAPK. In knife collecting, condition is of paramount importance. The pictures you've posted aren't very clear so it's difficult to say for sure but your knife appears to be an older one, not one of the newer offshore imports which sell cheap.

The best source for current value is eBay sold listings. Do an advanced earch for sold listings of "Marbles fish knife". Knives like yours come up for sale there fairly often so you should be able find some comparables. In knife collecting condition is everything, so look for knives in similar condition to yours. The better the condition, the more valuable.

A knife like yours is listed in "Levine's guide to knives and their value" 5th edition , page 357 fro $300, up called a all metal safety knife-Safety Fish Knife. Usually his prices are on the up side. Terry
