The wood is actually linden (or basswood.) Pine carves nice too and can look very similar to linden. Thanks for the kind remarks. :)

I been looking at your carvings for some time now - I ENJOY them all. ::tu:: ::tu:: The Johnny Reb - Billy Yank figures make me think you should carve a chess set with the charactures that you do. Chess is toooooo serious for me - the pieces would put a little fun in it. I'm more of a checkers type guy!

Thanks for posting these wonderful pieces of your hobby. ::tu:: ::tu:: I'm pretty certain we all enjoy them.

Thanks for the kind comments islander and Hukk, I really appreciate them.

Yeah Hukk, a chess set of those guys would be neat, I know a few carvers who have done something similar. Maybe one day... I say that alot  I get lots of ideas than hardly find time to carve 'em ::huff:: . Thanks again for the kind words of encouragement :).

Don, I take about 2 trips a year pulling my little
21 foot covered wagon behind me, 9 - 10,000 miles worth
I look at wood carvins of all kinds all around this great country
wherever I see em.
Yours has such a distinct look to em, I just love em !!! ::ds::
The cowboys are my favorite, as I try to go too the
Rocky Mtns and western states the most.
So glad you and the other carvers here at AAPK take
the time to show all us lucky members some of your work !!!
Will

Both look great, Don.

Of course, since my gg-grandfather fought with Walker's Greyhounds (Texas), I am partial to Johnny Reb.

Wow, that's great Unk. I'm partial to the Confederates myself, although I do not know of any family that fought in the war. Here in Northern Virginia, we are rich in Civil War history, battlefields, trails etc... spent alot of time as a kid playing and fishing in the Bull Run creek. Of course, over-development is slowly threatening these precious landmarks.
