3 vintage folders or 1 T. Bose ?

A long, long time ago, ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of owning a gracefully shaped Pennsylvania long rifle. I bought one once, but it was not pleasingly proportioned, and in very sad condition. I turned it over for a little profit and went back to dreaming.
Really good ones cost well into five figures, so when this came along today I had to adjust my expectations.
Smooth bore, half octagon half round barrel which is un-cut at 45". About 58 cal., it was originally flint, converted to cap lock. It's had restoration to the forearm. The barrel is not signed, but the lock is from Philadelphia. The ram rod appears to be the original, and the experienced collector I bought it from insists from the details of manufacture and the brasses that it's a Lehigh County gun.
I hesitated at first, until I realized it cost no more than 3 nice vintage, or 1 good custom folders. All knives and no guns makes Fran a dull boy !

I think you made the right choice !!!
Especially since you been waiting so long for one
I have a matching pair, 50 cal rifle, 50 cal pistol,
both cap & ball, bought in 1981.
My most memorable whitetail, a spike buck was taken
back sometime in the 80's with the muzzleloader
Sure was not the nicest buck I have got, but real special
taken with the smokepole.
Beautiful Gun !!!

Thanks Dave.
I don't think I'll try loading this one up. She's been around long enough to deserve a graceful retirement, but I'd like to know where she's been, and what stories she could tell.
I rebuffed the offer to convert the lock back to flint, too. That cap lock is part of her history, and that's the way I'll keep it.
Gringo ! I've heard of punt guns, but that un would sink the rowboat.

You're a better man than I, Fran.
I afraid I'd have to touch her off at least once.

I agree, it was a good choice! I'd definitely have a tough time between that nice rifle, and one of Tony's knives though!!

I'm sorry I missed the chance to heft it, when I was by your place Fran!
Thanks for directing me to the thread!!
