All About Pocket Knives

I just got my first Canal Street knife last week; an ebay "win", stockman pattern. I was very impressed with the fit & finish and the feel of it in my hand. In fact I was so impressed I turned right around and bought a congress just a day or three later. Both are amber stag bone and IMO beautiful knives.

I'm just wondering if there are any other Canal Street fans out there. I haven't tried either one as a user and likely won't at least for a while. I would prefer waiting till I happen across one that has already been working for someone else. I'm curious to know if anyone here does carry and use one with regularity, and if so, what their experience has been so far.

I haven't had a chance to take any pics yet, but if anyone else has some, please show us your Canal Street knives.

I'm like you Phil, I haven't tested any but that Canal Street Gunstock that Jonet has sure got my attention!

I have several of them. VERY nice knives. I use my amber bone half-moonpie trapper as a carry knife every few days or so. It feels nice in the hand and fits well in my pocket. The only one I have that I'm not real fond of is the Cannitler. The blades just look a bit out of proportion to the handle to me.

I have a couple Phil...........nice knives! Haven't used one yet either, I have to many torn up ones for EDCs.

I bought my first canal street knife and liked it so much I have bought 5 more . I really want a ring opener but just don't have the extra cash right now. Here is a pic of mine.

I've handled two of them thus far, a Cannitler in D2, which is mine, and the Halfmoon trapper in 14-4CroMo steel. You'll have to ask Johnnie how that one carries I was impressed by the fit and finish of both of them, made customizing very easy, and I like the D2 steel, I think behind plain old carbon that's probably my favorite (hmmm. I should get a few more D2 knives, you know, for "comparison")

I have 17 of them now. Two of them are the D'Holders (179315 Dark Amber 440SS 7 1/4" # 174 ,and 11387 19C27 Sandvik Bowie Buffalo Horn # 70.)

After I found out why they only polished one side of the blade (history in it). I felt that in the future if some one buffs it then I would know it is not MINT...

I still think for the buck they are the best looking. JMO

Their first 2-3 years they got significant help from Queen by supplying them parts and allowing CSCC to assemble a final product without means to do most initial manufacturing. This partnership produced the whittler, wildcat, swinguard, trapper, muskrat, large stockman, gunstock, congress. Most all were 420HC.

They made several of the same patterns in the Rigid name on contract during the same era; which are super nice knives. In the last 12-15 months they have started to make their own patterns from scratch, to include the ring opener, moon pie and half moon trapper; and possibly the canittler. They are now trying to perfect a muskrat of their own. These are a mix of 440C, D2 and 14-4CRMO.

In 2006, they made some heavy duty lockbacks for NAHC that are pretty sweet. Made with 154cm, here is one ==> CSCC Lockback Auction

Seems like they are still in the phase where they could go either way. Let's hope they get a larger fan base and become a booming success.

canal street produced rigid wildcat driller.

Well, I like them. I don't think there are to many of these out there. From what I hear they were an after thought and not to many matching serial numbers were left to make MINT SETS.

Here is the first years production in a MINT SET (all matching serial numbers). I also have the boxes, papers, and jewelers sack!


You can see that the lid has a rubber seal the black part in the bottom of the picture. It keeps everything in the display case looking nice.

You folks sure do have some nice ones. Not a bad looking knife in the bunch.

Hukk, that sure makes an impressive display. You can send it my way any time you get tired of looking at it.

Eric, that gunstock like yours is gonna be my next acquisition.

The more I look at em, the more impressed with them I become.

I have the Canittler. It is one of my favorite user knives.
That D-2 sure holds an edge. I am sold on Canal Street.
I would own more if they used more carbon steel or D-2.

You can put me on that list Phil. Canal knives have a lot of class. It's funny how each manufacturer gives its knives their own distinct look. Canal street has their look and it is a good one. I have their amber stag muskrat with triple-threaded bolsters. As far as I'm concerned it's art.
I wouldn't dream of cutting anything with it.

Hey Mike,
What is the handle material on that whittler?
Looks like ebony wood to me, but my computer screen has been known to lie to me on occasion.
