All About Pocket Knives

I picked up some Camillus yellow handle knives. They appear to be new, unused knives. They came without boxes. I figure they are factory leftovers or seconds. Some of the handles have some rough or uneven areas on them. Has anyone had any success sanding down and buffing out yellow handles. I was thinking of starting with some 320 grit and going up to about 1000 grit or higher. What kind of buffing or polishing compound would be good to shine them up.

Greg, successful attempts have been made to refinish yellow handles. Sand them down to at LEAST 600 grit before attempting to buff then use a white compound or green chrome on a brand new medium buff on aa slow speed, it will take some time to get it properly buffed but if you rush it you will melt them and/or buff grooves in them and we both know nobody wants that.

It helps to buff the handles crossways then once all the scratches are gone very lightly go lengthwise down the handles.

Thanks for the advice. I will try buffing it out using a new pad on the drill press so I can buff at a slower speed than the grinder will allow.
