That's a real one of a kind. Mine is more conventional. It was rehandled by a cabinetmaker friend in curly maple.

That is a great handle. Do you have a maker's mark? My big splitter is a Foster Bros 18. The blade is 18" long. This knife is great during Halloween to scare the kids that come to the door!

Mine is completely unmarked. Your post got me interested in finding out about Foster Bros and a quick google search led to a site with a wealth of information:

Evidently they were makers of quality chef and butcher knives from the late 1800s through 1953, and made pocket knives as well. Their plant was in Fulton, NY.
