All About Pocket Knives

My first post in this part of the forum, so I would like to show a modern Sheffield made knife.

STAN SHAW, SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND Folding Bowie Style Knife 6" closed, 2009.

Stan Shaw, a few months ago, was shown a picture of a lovely old mid 19C f/Bowie made by M Dyson of Sheffield, he decided to make something similar.

His finished knife measures 6", has a 4" clip point carbon blade, a round thumb release to lock the blade, embossed cast German silver fittings ( on the original Dyson they would have been filled pressed n/s ), escutcheon plate and pins, milled brass linings. The knife also features Stans filework down the handle back and blade.

That is one very fine looking piece of cutlery.

Mr Shaw is a classic himself. I've seen some of his videos and I would sure like to hear more. HELL of a craftsman.

Thanks for the encouraging words guy's, delighted you like the old (new) knife. The dirk is numbered 004, one of six. Stan has now moved, from Garden St, and is now well established in his new Kelham Is workshop.

This one shows Stans 'trade mark' maltese cross and fluted filework, running along the back of the handle and blade spine.



A nice modern Stan Shaw (09) 4" pruner, n/s liners, pins and threaded ? bolsters, 'hand forged' blade (forged years ago) and it has very nice cocobolo scales, this knife is the sort of thing Stan occasionally makes for the two remaining Sheffield shops, maybe made in a batch of about 20.

Steve's not the only one floating in and out of here, Mick.

Nice to hear Stan is still working. I have a gorgeous pearl handled folding dirk that he made for the now defunct retailer Hoffritz. I've never seen another and have no idea when he made it or how many he made for them. My guess is that it was made in the 1980's.
