I received this undeserved Toenail; as a gift from a good friend of mine; :) Sam Turner. I am sure some of the members here know Sam; he's a good egg. ::nod:: It originally had acrylic scales; I had it redone with some black & white Coral; I think it turned out nice. ::tu:: It shouldn't be hard; to figure out who did the fantastic customizing; (hint) MM. ::ds:: ::ds::

Beautiful work on a relatively rare knife - a congress toenail from 2003, only year it was made. An excellent improvement - those bolsters were made for fluting! ::tu:: ::tu:: Real nice coral on that also! It's a beauty ::tu:: ::tu::

looks fantastic! I've started to see some fossil coral out there now, but this is the first I've actually seen it on a knife.

And your filework is impeccable as always!

That knife would be a 1 of 48, broken down into 1 of 12 with 4 celluloids. The Congress Toenail usually had 1 of 4 bears etched on one of the spear blades. Black bear (buffalo horn - 30), Grizzly bear (Second Cut Stag - 30), Kodiak bear (Estate elephant ivory - 30), and Polar bear (pearl - 30). There were 78 of each bear, 30 of the natural materials and 48 of the celluloids. I believe the artist Charlen Satrom did the bears (others also) and Todd Reid did some other animals as well on other Toenail configurations (trapper and muskrat). There is the history from 2003.

I like it better this way! ::tu:: ::tu::
