Spalted maple is really becoming popular. I make exotic grips for 1911 frame pistols and the spalted maple is easily my top selling product. I've got some pictures on my website:

I don't know if you've tried them before, but some of my favorite woods are amboyna burl, buckeye burl, thuya burl, box elder burl, and red mallee. Maybe you can keep those in mind for a future build if you haven't used them before. Amboyna burl is by far my favorite though. I like the pieces that are two-toned with a red over amber coloring. And the wood smells amazing when you're working it!

1911s are the greatest pistols ever designed. Once you buy one...you find yourself owning several more.

Olympus, I have to agree they are nice sidearms.

I carried one with an MP company at Fort Knox; and in Nam (Americal-23rd Infantry Division); as a last line of defence.

Things would have been very bad; if it ever got to that point.

I have to say that is just what is wrong now days????? VERY SAD!!!
Do you think? Some of the old knife co. would have used more woods like this if they had it stabilized like we do???
You know they would have - you know it! the stuff is gorgeous to look at.
Man it sure seems like some of these knife guys are brain washed.
Thanks for the replies everyone.
