All About Pocket Knives

Just bought this from Randy Coulter's AAPK store. 2003 issue Cigar Box Classic Peanut.

TJ is that carbon steel?

It's not marked stainless and it looks like carbon. I think in my search for info on these that it did say they were carbon. There is another later issue from 2008? called "tobacco" which are Chinese made and are stainless, I believe.

Nice knife. Randy has good deals. He & I have done lots of trading over the years. I have always been pleased with the trades.

Remember when it comes to Schrade:
Schrade Closed on July 31, 2004.
Anything manufactured after that date is for the new company, Taylor Brands, LLC.
Most of it is made in China, though Camillus made a few stamped Schrade Walden about 2005 or 2006. These are good knives in their own right, (made by Camillus after all), but I don't include them as part of my Schrade collection. They have had very few pieces made in the US since then.
Just remember if it has Taylor's name on the package, it is made after Schrade closed.

What about those Fire and Ice trappers that Taylor has out?

I don't know anything about them.

I just Goggled them and it appears some were probably made by Bear & Sons and another looks more like a Great Eastern to me.
I had heard some talk attributed to Stewart Taylor that they were going to try and have some knives made in the USA in limited runs.

Note- the following is my opinion:
While I approve of the fact that he is having some knives made in the USA, they don't have any collector interest to me.
My interest in Schrade ended with the closure of Imperial Schrade Corp. in 2004.
For the purpose of my collection the later made Schrade knives do not fit in as Schrades.
There is pattern or two that I do collect, i.e. the Sharpfinger pattern (152OT) that are made by other companies. My interest in it is the subtle variation of design and the popularity of the pattern.

That one you put the link to at SMKW looks like a Great Eastern pattern to me.

Does anyone know for sure?
I think there was a discussion about them some time back in Knife Lore....
