Lot of money for a pocket knife, IMO

Just tried logging onto the link and I'm curious if others have this problem:Seems to take forever to load and then afterwards I get a bunch of spam filling up my mailbox.It's almost like these sites are trying to invade your computer.
Sorry to hijack the thread but this has happened too many times to be coincidental.

As memory serves me that auction was held in conjunction with the Pigeon Forge show in December of either 2005 or 2006. And that 6488 greenbone Tested reached a final bid total of $13,000 plus a 10& buyer's premium to achieve its final price with J. Bruce Voyles conducting the auction. It was part of a 1,000 or so knife collection that a gentleman from Louisville had amassed from the 1940s to late 1960s when he quit collecting. The gentleman who owned the collection was 94 years old and had fallen from his roof while repairing it and needed to be placed in a convalescent or rest home.
And, that 6488 was kind of an anomaly for that auction in bringing such an outstanding price; there were many bargains to be had there and a friend of mine got several of them, spending around $15,000 total. Among his great finds that I remember were a near mint/mint Miller Bros bone handled with screws 2-blade Coke bottle folding hunter with full "Miller Brand" blade etch that he got for $800 and a ca. 1840s-1850s Wade & Butcher Sheffield 8" closed lockblade Folding Bowie with stag handles that he paid $1600 for in near mint condition, unsharpened with pepper spots. And both of those picks were way, way under the market at the time; most of the bidding audience were solely Case collectors and many knives other than Case went essentially for peanuts. If anyone else remembers this auction maybe they can affirm my statements concerning it. Eric

I knew that Voyles had sold a Case Tested 6488 for about $14000.
However, I never heard the rest of the story.

Dead on! That is exactly how it went! I was there and the Case did very well while others did not fare that way. I bought a bought a bunch of "Primble's" for not much of anything. The only thing that wasn't stated is the 6488 that brought so much was a true "Salesman's Sample". The buyer seen the inking through a loop and most people missed it. I sat down with him before the auction and he showed me since I wasn't bidding on it. It wouldn't draw that kind of money in today's market.

I can likely get the owner to send me good pictures if y'all would like to see them.

Cool...thanks! I asked Bruce to forward it to me and he hasn't replied yet. Were you at the auction? I remember seeing jaws drop all through the room. It was really a bit of a bidding war between Travis (the buyer) and Joe Chance. One heck of a knife though...

Okay, anyone know the best way to clean-up drool from between keys on my computer keyboard?

Don't worry about the drool .... as long as you keep looking at that superb 88 you're still going to drool. Maybe just get a bib and keep it handy, LOL.

All joking aside, that's a great looking knife .... I'm envious !!!!

All this time I thought it was a trapper pattern that brought that kind of money.

MAN IT SURE IS SWEET JUST HADE TWO PIC MY SELF UP OFF THE FLOOR I SURE LIKE TO GET MY HANDS ON IT ONE TIME.

Here's one that, if it were ever sold at auction, would blow that record Case out of the water. If it didn't it would be the bargain of the century.
