i am new member with q? about handle materials on Case knives or actually letter in front of... any help appreiciated.. SC ;T.H.; DR; BK; A; V; SR and while we are at it how about letters at end like SP SSP? Thanks 4eyes

RB=rogers bone V= vintage stag A=appaloosa and DR= deep red is that correct??? still wondering about T.H. Thanks for helping!

My guess for TH would be Tip Bolster with a sheepfoot blade but I could be way off. I don't see where the many abriviations are listed anywhere, I am on the road though it seems like Sargents might have a good list in it also..not sure.

I second that! When I first saw this post, my thought was that you should look at the clues as to what is diferent about the specific knife you are looking at. Ussually that points to what the letters mean. A different blade, bolster variations, the finish of the blade, Stainless blade, change in dye or exotic handle material for example.

T.H. probably refers to Tommy Hart of W.R.Case & Sons.
If your Case knife has a T.H. stamp beside the pattern number, then this pattern was designed by Tommy Hart.

Steve Pfeiffer's new book, "Collecting Case Knives," in addition to being magnificent in about seven other categories, has a chart of suffixes found on tang stamped pattern numbers. Anyone who has the remotest interest in Case knives should have this book.

Some books say the DR is for dark red and others say it means the bolsters are drilled out.I do know that I have a red bone congeress from 93 and it has DR on the tang and the bolsters obviously arent drilled so I'm assuming that the dark red is correct.
