According to all of the reference material I have .... which is not substantial .... a stag handled 85 was not made by Case in this era ..... can others post support either for or against ??????

Thanks

Looks like it was only made with yellow comp(3185), or green, reg, or red bone(6185) in the xx era. Also the Case XX stamp doesnt look right, too big and looks like maybe it was cold stamped...But Im just a beginner.. Mark

I checked three references including Pfeiffer's book on Case Collecting and none of them lists a 5185. Additionally, looking at the stag handles on this knife, they do not look correct for the era. The old stag handles were usually as thin as the bolsters and caps (or at least as close as possible) the desire for thick stag seems to be a modern one.

You guys are correct. Case never made a 5185 until 1980 when an SFO was made in stainless as part of a set of three.

That knife is a rehandled restamped rework - stamp and pattern number look like crap.

I have watched this seller's auctions for years and have bought knives from him, and this is the first fake that I have seen him list. So maybe its just ignorance on his part.

Totally agree with knifeaholic on this seller.
