Hello all,

Can someone post a picture of a Case Trapper with a muskrat blade vs. a regular blade ??

I've heard there is a difference but with my eyes an ( mind ) it is hard for me to tell the difference.

Thanks

I will try to explain how to recognize a muskrat blade, I currently have 2 of them.

1) Only trappers from the USA period (1965-1969) were ever made with muskrat blades.

2) The easiest way to tell, with the knife closed look at the back end of the knife, the rear of the mater blade will be about 1/16" to 1/8" lower than the spey blade. You can also look at it from the side and see the difference. Unfortunately it is very hard to tell from the blade profile alone.

Here are a few pictures, the first 3 are Muskrat blades and the next 2 are standard blade.

Dean the easiest way I've found to ID the muskrat blades on the trappers is, open both blades. Look at where the spine of the blade meets the front of the back spring with the blades open. A regular trapper main clip blade will be flush and even with the back spring where they meet, just like the spey secondary blade is. If the main blade isn't flush or even and sits a little lower than the back spring, and you can see a little of the front of the back spring where they meet, it's a muskrat blade. A muskrat bladed trapper with the main blade opened, will look as if a smaller wrong blade was put into the knife because the blade doesn't completely cover the front of the back spring. I hope this helps you and I didn't get you confused.

Thanks guys,

I really appreciate your input. Now for one more question about the muskrat blade ....... I've been told Case only used them on trappers from 1965-1969 ?????? Is this correct ?

Thanks,

Dean

That is correct, there is currently a XX 5254 on ebay that states it has a muskrat blade, it does not. I sent the seller a message and he did post it on his ad.
