Old Knife

This knife was my Father's given to him by his Father. It has Wm Elliot & Co Sheffield on the blade. Most of the animal fur is still on it. Does anyone know anything about this knife?

Sheffield England has been known for cutlery production going back to the 14th century.
For your particular knife, Goin's Encyclopedia of Cutery Marking's shows:
Wm. Elliot & Co. Sheffield circa 1880-1918

Hi and welcome to the site Ann. It looks more typically German or Austrian in origin rather than Sheffield. I think Wm Elliot was a trade name used by a New York-based importing company. I'll try to find out more for you.

I have owned several German made fixed blades with deer hooves used as handles.....very nice knife.

I have a half dozen of those by various manufacturers;mostly German and Austrian with one from Canada(but probably made in Germany.Nice knife by the way.
