my great grandfather had this knife it says on the tang laclede st louis

Laclede knives were sold by E.C. Simmons Hardware Co. of St. Louis from around 1935 to just before WW2.

There is an area in St. Louis just north of the Arch called Laclede's Landing.
I wondered where that name came from. I thought it was some politician or something.
Could be a connection.

i just wonder if my great grandfather didnt get it new because the was born and raised in missiouri

Pierre Laclede was a French explorer and fur trapper who along with his partner, Auguste Chouteau, established a trading post on the west bank of the Mississippi River in 1764. His little trading post eventually gave rise to a small settlement of cabins around 1784, and being a loyal Frenchman, Laclede named the new village St.Louis in honor of the patron saint of the King of France.

i live in laclede county mo. were about 160 miles SW of st.louis on I44.
