Not sure how old this piece is, it has been around as long as I can remember and I am 30. It was my grandfathers. It is fully complete with sheaths for the knives that are supposed to have them and even though it looks like it is gone, the sharpener is actually at the bottom of the picture, it fell when I was moving and I haven't taken the glass out and put it back up. Thanks for your help in advance!!

Without a close-up of the tang stamp it is impossible to tell the age of these knives , but I would estimate the value to be in the $1200 - $1500 range if I were selling them .

As to the age of the display:
I see a 171UH in there.
The 171 was made from 1973 to 1983 and again in 1990 & 1991.
If you remember it being around before 1990, then it would have been from the earlier 1973-1983 time frame.
An excellent piece for a Schrade collection and with family ties as well!
It don't get much better!

Do we see a Model 225 at the bottom? That only goes to 1979.

I actually put those displays together in 1978 when I worked at Schrade in the Old Canal Street Plant. I worked in shipping for a year before joining the USAF.
I would say those are 1978 ish

You would probably get more selling the knives separately, then the case, especially if you have box and papers for the knives. The right seller might pay more, but you might have to find him. That is a great set. Selling the whole thing, and the shipping for the case might limit buyers.

Hal is spot on in his advice. The average buyer doesn't have the money to do the whole thing. That is unfortunate of course, because as afficionados we want to see it stay together. Selling it all off separately might increase the net profit by 1000% or more. That is what is usually done. Darn it, anyway. Why don't you just hang it up in a prominent place in the house? The wife would just be crazy about it!

If I were going to sell, I would definately not piece it out. To me that would take away from the overall value. I think someone would want the whole deal instead of just the individual knives. It's more of a conversation piece when you have the display and all. And like I said, I think it adds to it, because I have never seen another display like it, and I have been looking for a long time!!

It would take an exorbitant amount of money for me to sell it and even then I don't think I would. My dad would SHOOT me if I sold it!!!

The last time I saw a case only on eBay it went for over $100.If the knives in the case have a price listed, add them up,triple it and add the extra for the case.

Guys,
I gather Schrades and I have alot of them. I also have a room full of displays and 90% of them are filled with te knives they were mde for. Having said all this...the theory to sell the display at $100. and add up the retail prices of the knives listed and multiply that out X3 only means that you will NOT sell the display. Now, if that is the thought process behind the pricing theory then you are good to go, however, If you really want to sell it, I assure you you will not sell it by applying that pricing.
It's a great example of a fine product and having it full ofknives is a great thing. It is definately worth keeping since it was your grandfather's and I encourage you to hang onto it!
Thanks for sharing,
Tom
