How does the WINCHESTER OVER TRADEMARK OVER MADE IN U.S.A.
The winchester name is sort of a block cursive. Dont know what else to call it. The word trademark and made in u.s.a. is in smaller caps. By the way it is a tang stamp. To clarify my question how does this mark fit into the winchester,napanoch,simmons conglomerate and dont forget honk falls,shapleigh,hemmings and the list goes. Darn if this isn't like having a computer with an input shute that you throw a knife into and out comes the history. Thanks for the help with this one.

Are there hyphens around... -TRADE MARK- ...or no... TRADE MARK...?

Looks like no hyphens began in 1919.
Hyphens were used beginning in 1938.....but are also used in the Blue Grass reproductions of today.

Oh yeah, stamped on all blades...or just the master?

More to follow, I'd guess.

No to the hyphen. The other blade a pen is stamped in small sized caps winchester only, nothing else nada. I may send it to you ao you can figure it out.

Now, this is just from Goins' book...but it sounds like between 1919-1931. In '31 a lower quality line was introduced, marked only on the master. But, I suppose the marking in question could also be between '31-'38, when the hyphens appear to be added, just one of the better knives.

Maybe a Winchester collector can add something more, as that's the best I've got.

Hello, I also like Old "Authentic" Winchester knives. They have been restoring and collecting this brand for over 50years, so to find one that is LEGITAMATE is EXHAUSTING. However, they can be found, if you know what to look for. I personally stay away from the later--(cheaper ones), the ones marked winchester only on secondary(just doesn't seem right to me). They should look and feel like all the other c1920's era high quality knives. ALL BLADES STAMPED PERIOD. I have owned very few(just a small handfull) "AUTHENTIC" WINCHESTER knives, and they all have had nice pattern #'s that match our books. The famous small shield. Very clean, crisp, and clear tang stamps, WITH(SQUARED CORNERS ON ALL LETTERS), some may not look squared anymore because of the use, but even NOTE the "PERIODS" in U.S.A.--Are SQUARED PERIODS NOT ROUND. The tangs "shoulders" MUST be crisp all the way across the tang(this drastically decreases your chances of getting a shaved tang and restamped fake knife). Last but not least, is that ALL Winchester knives I have owned, NEVER had hyphon's on either side of Trade Mark. I hope this helps someone, As this is what I was taught many years ago by my grandpa and father. I also just picked this knife up on ebay last week(WOW at $68.99 w/$3.00 shipping) A JUMBO JACK. You see, bargains are still out there and so are the Winchester knives, this is proof.
About this knife--3 7/8 closed, 5/8" thick, HEAVY, Master blade backspring measures a full 1/8", Just a Beefy OLD knife, just like the Honk Falls, or Napanoch knives(if you had a couple then you know they are Beefy-Thick-Heavy), Brass Pins and Liners, nickel silver bolsters and shield. Thanks Mark
