The Cutlery of Eloi Pernet...........

Some pictures of a somewhat obscure French cutlery maker's wares.Their quality is ultra high and the finish impeccable.Probably their most famous product was their so-called,"coin knives".Taking an old large silver French coin,it would be carefully sliced in two pieces and from 1 to 4 small custom blades would be fit into the confines and then the two halves of the coin re-assembled.A lot of companies would later on use this pattern as advertising knives such as Colonial;Ambassador, and the like.
Strangely enough I do not have one of Eloi's coin knives although it isn't from not trying.Usually when they come up for sale the price goes way out of my range.
I only have 3 items of theirs:a pair of stag handled poultry shears;a multi-blade folding knife, and a desk set(letter opener and scissors)but they are all unique in themselves.
The shears have a very unusual spring mechanism;that of two leaf springs working together rather than the usual tapered coil spring in most shears. This makes for a very smooth action and resistance to binding that coils are prone to doing. The stag handles are another unusual item(most have just plain metal ones). As with all Eloi Pernet items I have seen, the polish on the blades has to be seen to be appreciated.
The multi-blade knife has polished smooth bone scales and ALL the knife blades and springs are fully polished inside and out. There are no sharp edges sticking up(flush fit blades)and there are re-inforcing washers on the blade pivot. The action of the blades is uniform and very smooth;I can't imagine how long it took to achieve that.
The last item is a desk set.Again the finish is superb and the scissors feature some custom file work and operate very smoothly. They are fitted into a beautiful green leather sheath with gold decoration.
Hope you all enjoy these and I would like to see any more examples of Eloi knives or related items that are out there.
