All About Pocket Knives

Over the years I have collected knives that Schrade gave to their dealers, I call them Give-Aways.
These knifes have the Year they were made, and stamped "Schrade NY. USA" "Schrade USA" and "Schrade+ USA".
I would like any information on these Give-Away Schrade Knives... Ken

1984 - 194OT
1984 - 108OT
1986 - 18OT
1987 - 72OT
1990 - SP1

I find it hard to belive no-one has posted a reply to my post on these Schrade knives.

Me too but I've never seen any of them before . I'd think they would be pretty scarce. I like them. Somebody should be along, soon.

Sometimes I miss a post or even several.
Three years ago a guy could read every post on AAPK everyday and still have time to read other forums as well.
Now with over 7000 members, I can't even begin to keep up with the topics I like to follow.

Why didn't Schrade ever make an 8OT as a "Give away"?
As the 8OT was Schrad's longest running knife, the 8OT would have been top "Give away" Ken

Hi Grant, I have been looking for 12OT; and found one last month.
Dale has just sent some knives to me, one is an 108OT.
I have 3 108OT now, these knives do not come up for sale too often.
I like them because they have the date etched on the blade... Ken

Giveaways in the knife world have mostly been smaller less expensive patterns. As for the longest-running knife, you are partially correct, I believe. It is actually the pattern, the 881, I think. We know it was listed in their 1926 catalog, and possibly was being made as early as 1904. The 8OT is nothing more than a variation in covers of that pattern. Over the years it has been offered in many different covers, bone, celluloid, plastic, wood, stag, micarta, and there was even a brief version with oblique bolsters. At the very last, it had degenerated into a shadow of its former self, with stainless blades, rounded edges, boring pull, poor fit and finish, Swinden construction which made repairs difficult, and ugly plastic handles and shield. If the reader has never handled any of the grand old Schrade 881 stockman knives from the 1930s, you would know what I mean. 1973 was the beginning of the end for the aesthetics in regular-run folding Schrade knives, although they continued to make some special ones with nice covers. Just my opinion, of course.

Schrade did use the 194OT and the 34OT as Give A Ways.
In 1984 the 8OT retailed for $21.95 - the 34OT $19.95 and the 194OT $17.95.

Bottom knife 4" Schrade Cut Bone. I don't know much about Schrades, but might be a 881.

Those are some beauties! Your rounded bolsters instead of the pinched squared bolsters on the 881 pattern Texas stockman, probably make yours the 887 (8873 in bone stag), assuming that it is the same (nominal) four inches as the 881. Great knives! Thanks for posting!
