All About Pocket Knives

Here is a hawkbill I picked up a while back and was wondering what you could tell me about it.

It's a Schrade 186 with a craftsman etch on the blade. The tangstamp dates to 1946-1973, according the the information I have on cratfsman, the etch narrows that date range down to 1948-1950, does this sound right? The etch has the longtail C and below craftsman it reads "professional pruner". Any idea when they used that particular phrase, or has the date been narrowed down as far as it's going already? Does those dates sound right? Thanks a bunch.

I frankly do not without looking it up know the time line on Craftsman etchs. The Schrade Walden USA was used from 46 on but in the 48 and 50 era Schrade walden without the USA was much more prevelent. If I looked at the shape of this knife I would call it real late 50 tys or 60 tys. That is just a gut guess. The square handle differed on the early versions but you really have to be a bug on the subject to notice it. Just a bit different taper a bit rounder more like its predecessor the cut co. The later 50tys and 60tys all carried the USA . However if you time line is reliable on the etch then you should be correct. Just an opinion. LT

thanks LT, I have a later modle of the knife as well and the handle scales are much squarer, not nearly as beveled as these. This one has thicker rounded scales while the other one I have has thinner more squared edged scales.
