Knife Repair and Restoration

Recently I inherited a small pocket knife with a mother of pearl handle, it is going to be a really nice family heirloom. It belonged to my grandfather who died in 1959. The blades are a little rusty and stiff to open, and the hoop is no longer there.
Are there any places in Syracuse New York that repair or restore jack knives? My grandmother has carried it in her purse since my grandfathers death and recently presented it to me. I honored to have it and would love to be able to show this piece off. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I can't guanantee you'll find someone in Syracuse, but posting a picture of it here may draw out a repairman with any parts yours might need.

If the knife isn't already cleaned up send it to me......I'll do a little rust removal and loosening for ya - no charge. I can't replace the hoop though.
Just pay the postage both ways.

What do you make your bails out of? What diameter? I have used nickle pin material, but that seemed a bit soft.

most bails were NS except for a few that were plated steel. 3/32" NS rod isn't all the soft and the more you work it forming the bail the harder it gets (most non ferrous metals like nickel silver, copper and brass work harden through bending and hammering)

Tom Williams lives in Syracuse. I think he only works on Camillus knives.
If the knife is a Camillus, Tom would be the man. He worked at the Camillus factory for 30 years.

Yep! NS for bails. Seems to be what most are made of anyway except for some very old steel ones. Too soft? Never had a problem.
