All About Pocket Knives

What is the correct name of the screws used to hold a knife together like these? I am looking in the books I have and can find Chicago Screws, pivot pins, cap crews, etc.

Do you need one, or is this just a curiousity thing?

I was thinking about ordering some and just playing with them to see how they worked. The insert that goes inside the knife could only be about 1/8 or less to work on a folding knife and the ones I see are much bigger. I assume these come in 3 pcs? There would be a screw for each side and an insert for the middle. I knew these were torx head screws but didn't know the correct name of the entire unit.

The inserts that hold the sides of the knives apart a called standoffs, at least by some companies.
I have seen them threaded and I have seen them with male & female screws that go insode the standoffs.

Maybe this bit of info will help.

Just Google "Knife Supply" and click on places like "Jantz" or "Texas Knifemakers Supply" or any of the zillion of other places that pop up. Unless you're trying to replace one specific screw on a knife, I recommend buying the right size drill bit and tap for the screws you buy. I makes things a lot easier.

Torx with threadlock. Be careful with the threadlock.

McMaster-Carr sells a huge selection of threaded standoffs with various types of screws. They're often used in assembling electronics components. I've seen them as small a #2.
