All About Pocket Knives

Had been watching this during the week, I realized it might go rather high, I did not expect it to reach, the price it finally went for. Prices for original Schrade knives are steadily on the increase, collectors are willing to pay much more now, than even a few months ago.

Hey Rusty, you're definately right about prices skyrocketing. However, there are still several knives that are slipping through the cracks. Wow. Unreal pricing for a rare, but in no way really unusual knife (the 44OT). Silas, your dad did good!

I don't mean to insult anyone, but I think that was much more than it should have gone for. $75.00 would have been the high price I'd expect. I've only been watching Schrades for a couple of weeks, but everything I've seen so far points to New Old Stock (NOS) knives being the most desirable, and some special issue knives bringing a premium.

It would be very interesting if a few of us could keep track of prices and build a "blue book" for everyone who wants to start collecting U.S. made Schrades.

I have been following knife prices in general, & Schrade prices specifically, on ebay for the last 18 months or so. There is a real fluctuation in the prices. Between this last Thanksgiving & New Year the prices were much lower. I picked up some real bargains then.

I am told that the seasonal change in prices is normal (at least with knives). Another time to look for bargains is during hunting season. The theory is that everyone is hunting & not buying knives.

Ebay seems to be such a dynamic (as opposed to static) medium that it is hard to set prices over a period of time longer than a month or two. There is so much change in what is available & how much people are willing to pay for it that prices change all the time. A rare pattern will sell for more than we think it should, and then we will see a half dozen of the same pattern show up for auction in the next week or two. That seems to be the nature of ebay.

I am afraid the days of the printed price guidelines are limited, with the exception of some of the high end collectible knives. It seems that ebay sets the prices for the lower end collectible knife market, I suspect it is true of other collectibles as well, (but I don't know that for a fact).
