All About Pocket Knives

To all my friends here on AAPK, I know I've been jumping in and out of the forums for the last few months, on and off and that couldn't be helped due to things in my family that were more important to me and I had to take care of. I'm going to call in the dogs and pee on the fire for knives and knife collecting. To me, it seems like the whole hobby has lost it's the true meaning and there are more people are in it for the money to be made than to keep such a great hobby alive for it's true reason, the history of the knives. I've made some good friends here on AAPK and some others that I thought were friends but they can only put on that show for so long. So for these reasons and family obligations beyond my control, I'm quitting knives and knife collecting. I'm going to let my family go through all my knives and pick out the ones they have given me or would like to have, and getting rid of the rest of them if I have to give away what I don't sale. I'm only keeping the few knives that were handed down through the family to me. It's just not fun for me anymore, it's more like a chore now and when the fun is gone there's no use to keep doing it. I'll just bow out and let the money grubbers and fake knife makers have at it and go ahead and finish ruining this great hobby I once loved, they have a good enough start on it anyways. Besides, I think it would be better to take the money I would spend on knives plus the money I get from the knives I'll sale and buy some things for some local families that are in need, things they can use. Not their wants but their needs. I think the money would be better spent that way. I can't comprehend me sitting here with hundreds if not thousands of dollars of knives that are just laying around when their are people in need of things. I'm just not that kind of person. You guys are some really great people. I've enjoyed coming to AAPK and reading it and making good friends here. Maybe someday if the hobby ever goes back to what it once was and is supposed to truly be about, I might start doing it again, but sadly I don't see that happening.I want to wish a Merry Christmas to you all and may God bless you now and in all the days to come. Aimus, that's very sad and I'm sorry to hear that you're giving up this hobby. But you have to do what you love and when you no longer love it you've got to let it go. Again, I'm saddened to hear that knife collecting is no longer enjoyable for you and I wish you all the best now and in the future.

I have to say I'm sorry to hear this. I don't know you but I have found your posts here interesting. When you get down to what no one wants let me know and I'll buy the rest. My collection is mostly the stuff no one else wants. I can't bear to see the poor old things thrown away and forgotten.

I am sorry that you are leaving AAPK. I will miss your posts. I always enjoyed your thoughtful insights. I do understand family takes precedence over one’s hobbies, even one as great as knife collecting. You WILL be missed! I hope things work out so you can come back to AAPK and knife collecting if you so desire.

Amius, its sad that you can let others that you dont even know infulence how you feel about something you like. There are enough awesome people here that dont care about the almighty dollar and just plain love knives and the friendships they spark. I never bought one knife thinking man this will be worth some money someday, I buy them because they make me happy me for some wierd reason. Its just sad you feel that way because of other folks.

I was taught a a very young age never let anyone change they way you feel about someone or something you love.
Hopefully you will change your mind.

You were one of the folks who welcomed me with open arms when I first joined this group, and you've proven yourself time and time again to be a straight shooter.

aimus, you need to visit my home where i have approx 3000 knives and i sell none. i sold one the other week just because this 66 year old guy from england had the same knife when he was 15. he saw i won it on ebay and he offered quite a bit for it. that was the first knife i let go for money. i do give away knives to special people for either their use or enjoyment of collecting or both.
what i am trying to say, is that there are a bunch of us bona-fide knife nuts who love knives for what they are and not for what they are worth.....
you do what is in your heart, just ignore all the money mongers out there. but all the same, i would have only a few knives if it weren't for people selling theirs...

if i told you how many times i have given up knives or some other collectible due to greedy, ethically deprived people, you wouldn't believe.

take a break, keep your knives...some people will always be in this hobby for the true purpose...love of american steel.
the rest of the side walk commandos come an go...an there is not a over the counter repellent for them yet.

Aimus my friend, it saddens me to hear this, I have come to know and respect you very well. I will always respect your wishes and true feelings, it is a noble thing to give up, especially in the manner you plan to do so. But, remember we are all here for you. It will be sad not to see you on here anymore and your presence from this small knife world will be missed. You haven't been All about knives since I've known you and I think thats why we became close. We are all brought here by a common bond, but there is so much more to every member here besides the knives. I'm thankful to have known you because of knives, seeing you give them up is hard. I will always send prayers for you and your family, you are a special person and God has blessed me with your friendship.

I can never repay you for the true blessing you have been to me, a friend, a leader and a brother.

catt, anytime that you or anyone wants to see the accumulation of pocketknives, is very welcomed at my home. coffee is always on. i only ask that you bring something that i can enjoy looking at......and i don't 100% mean your wife

Aimus, I have no idea who here at AAPK might have proven to have been other than honest and up-front and a friend to you. Hoping I've not said anything to cause your disaffection with the site and with the hobby.

As for the knife mechanics and fakers that ply their trade within our hobby and on Ebay, they had no greater enemy than you. I hate to see you giving up that fight.

We will be praying for you and your family.

As to your knives, do what you feel is right. It certainly sounds like you're going to do a noble thing.

Do me a favor. Hold back a remnant, for a faithful remnant was all that God needed to restore the Nation of Israel. Great things can be done with only a faithful remnant.

sorry to hear this. I'm sure there are some knives that have special meaning for you. You should hang on to those. That's why alot of us got into the hobby in the first place.
