All About Pocket Knives

I hope all you guys loaded up on black eyed peas today. It is the surest route to good luck all year long, at least according to my mother-in-law. Cook those babies with some ham left over from Christmas and they are yumeee! Add some cornbread and all is right with the world, well much of it anyways.

In this part of Pennsylvania sauerkraut and pork is the traditional meal on New Year's Day. I had mine around 3 o'clock this afternoon.

in SC it's collard greens, black-eyed peas, and cornbread!

Well, our New Year's meal followed most of what everyone else had. The table consisted of sauerkraut w/spare ribs (pork ribs), mashed potatoes, sweet corn, black-eyed peas with ham from Christmas and rice, onions and yellow corn bread (southern style-no sugar). Yum-Yum!! I remember that my grand-dad (1st generation German-American) made his own sauerkraut, pickled herring and egg-nog for the holidays, he was also a home-brewer.

We had Belgian waffles and venison sausage.

Wait, we should have eatin' Kraut???

This Irishman married an Italian Spagetti,meatballs, sausage,and garlic bread with a GIANTSvs cowboy game for desert

As always......homemade kraut and pork loin with lots of mashed taters. Mix it all together with lots of ketchup on top. Yum,Yum

We had cornbread and ham and blackeyed peas for lunch followed by corned beef and cabbage for supper.

It was windy for a while here.

Had to work in the morning, so I just grabbed some of my favorite Burgers

Was talking to a older lady of strong german heritage, this morning. She said that her grandpa always believed the reason that you should eat pork on New Year's is; that hogs root forward, chickens scratch backward, and cattle stand still.
Take THAT for whatever it's worth!?
