All About Pocket Knives

Time and time again these Schrade D’holders come on eBay for sale “without serial numbers”.
The market is being flooded by knives made after Schrade closed down in 2004; using "Leftover Parts"
The first Schrade D'holders made and sold after January 2000, were all clearly numbered.
"First Prodution run" knives where numbered from 001 to 500, the others 501 to 1000 did not have the "First Prodution run" etch.
where the numbers clearly stamped on the spline of the blade ?...

This time it's the one that was never finished. An unfinished 2004 D'holder put away untill now.
No numbers - No name - No badge. However, it is a D'holder - the seller said it was. ???

Then one that "was made before 2005 from the large quantity of Blades and Stag" that was left after the Close down;
No numbers stamped on these NEW KNIVES.

I wouldn't buy a knife from some one with grammar skills that poor anyway.

the person who who said the knife was made from parts the dholder stag on ebay dont know , that knife came from the factory in ellenville i got it my self you seem to judge people with out knowing them . i lived in walden for 50 years i have sold many schrade knives under redtrout waltongirl44 and fishon72 . i have bad eyes and am over 75 so please forgive my spelling .

i have some of the best rare schrade knives in my collection and am bothered with emails and calls to buy them so i thought it would deter as you can see the names 100% perfect feedback . i am not out to decieve anyone

Guys, Randy (W5RWU) and I have known REDTROUT for years. We met about 6-7 years ago on BF.
He has a very nice collection of Schrades and is quite knowledgeable about Schrades.
I have always known him to he a straight shooter and a standup guy.
He is one of the more knowledgeable Schrade collectors and his collection would leave most of us drooling.

it is possible there were stag supplies and blades left after closing .as far as numbers on the spine of the holder knife any one can put them on .with a engraving machine at some jewelry store .such as the factory does on some protos at the factory

I had the pleasure of meetiing REDTROUT myself at the factory last November, it was great talking to him about the old knives, he had the forsight to start collecting Schrades before most folks even thought about it. A little hint about the D'Holders, the etch was the last thing added to the blades, along with the serial numbers, so if you see a D'Holder with the ORIGINAL etch (and note the orginal red spacer), it's mostly likely a completed factory model, even if it's not serialized.

Say REDTROUT, is that the D'Holder mountain man drop point I see in that group photo? I was drooling over that one for months up in Pine Bush, glad ya got it before I crumbled and took out a loan for it! (You should see the D'Holder-like knife Dave S. just built! )

stick close to dave he can teach you much he is brilliant when it comes to the design and making a knife from scratch .i hope you are happy doing your job making knives from scratch and remember you cant buy them all save some for me ill be up soon . say hello to all for me and keep them canals comming for the world to see fine american work .

I too attest to Redtrouts honesty and also that there have been many knives from many manufactures that the "experts" have never seen and even company officials cannot tell you everything that came out of their factory. Nobody knew there was a 10 Case Cheetah for a long time I'm told.

I'm going to have to speak up on behalf of this seller as well. He's a well respected member of the knifer community and has some of the best Schrades and Canal Streets anywhere. I've bought knives from him in the past and hope to do so again. He's straight up and reliable. If he tells you something about a knife, you can rest assured that's the way it is.

This post was not the first time I had asked about the D’holder knives, that Schrade made and sold before 2004.
Asking for information on some Schrade knives, often fall on deaf ears.
In the past year, many D’holder and other fixed-blade Schrade knives have turned up on eBay,
my question on knives made after 2004 was clearly aimed at seeking information on those knives.
not trying to question someone trying to sell a knife on eBay.

Over the years I have known REDTROUT to be one of the best sellers on eBay.
If he feels he needs to sell knives under more than one name, that is his business.

One more collector that will vouch 100% for REDTROUT. For sure he is one of the good guys!

I can recommend Richard Lanigan as being straight-up.

Rich invited me into his home a few months back and entertained me royally with inside stories from Canal and Schrade, showed me some very nice knives in his collection, and sold a couple to me I wanted at very reasonable prices - he is a heck of a good man.
