All About Pocket Knives

This is the definition of "anger".

Almost a finished rehandle with filework, only needed final sanding, fitting and polishing, open up the spey blade and POW! Well, there goes half the handle flying across the room. After 15 minute of ranting and using every colorful word I could think of, I finally said "Oh well, a cheaper mistake than ivory would have been". Looks better with stag on it anyway.

I feel your pain.

Better off happening when it did rather than after sold or in the hands of one of your customers.
Still though, that's gotta be frustrating and depressing.

MM, you have more self control than me.......I would have thrown in on the floor and stomped on it.
Maybe that's why I don't repair knives!!

I feel your pain.

Here's one of my favorite failures. Trying to cobble one knife out of 2 well used ones. Had everything ready to go and during final assembly, the bone shattered. And the bone was awesome, well worn, smooth dark honey color...



Course, mine didn't look as sweet as yours...

Glenn, I hope you saved the pieces of the bone!
I have an idea for salvaging old bone like that.
If all the pieces are there, I think they can be reused.

More later, but now I am gone for a couple days to visit my new grandson.

More than once my friend, but never with a customers knife Had to learn a lot of self control when I started working on knives for other people

What would cause the handles to break? Pins too tight?

normally there is an internal fracture that causes a weak spot, in this case the bone was dry and almost chalky in the core which made it weak, sometimes you an peen a pin too tight and it will crack or chip, sometimes the crack wil be inside the bone and you won't even be able to see it.
