All About Pocket Knives

Thanks to Muskrat Man for the backspring!
The handles are cow bone dyed with leather dye and hand jigged. The tangs were badly worn, so I built those back up with a tig welder and it brought back the snap.
I cleaned a gobbler with it this morning and it worked like a charm!

ya'll done good I like the bone color, reminds me of the early '80s color case used when they first started straying from redbone. Jigging looks real good too.

What brand of dye did you use?
I find quite a difference between brands in the the way they color the bone.
I like the way that die is not too red like some browns.

Just wondering if the TIG welding idea came from my post about using that method for restoring the snap on worn knives? Not saying that anyone with common sense and a TIG welder couldn't come up with it on his own, but it would be nice to know if my thread actually helped someone. Beautiful rebuild job at any rate! Don't ya just love giving a knife a second life?

Yes I did Elvis! Your post made the light pop on I also filled in the worn out "rut" on the end of the old back spring with it too.

No Sir! I would never do anything like that The TN season opened saturday . I cleaned another one with this TL-29 this morning. I love that big spear blade for skinning!

That's good to know SF. I've heard of some guys who just try to bend the backspring to bring back the snap and while it might work for a while, the TIG method is the only way I've found that does it right. Usually the weld is harder than the metal it replaced, so I figure it should last longer than the original as far as wear is concerned. It's just good to know somebody reads those tips and once again, nice job on the rebuild. A real looker and it will probably out last both of us.
