All About Pocket Knives

Got this one some time ago.
The best I can find to match it up with is the 297.
It's 4-1/4" closed, spear, pen blades.
Equal end jack,bone stag handles.
The only thing worries me is the shield, did Schrade cut co use this shape shield.
Made 1953/54 by the book.
Can only make out what looks like the ery of cutlery, and NY. as in NEW YORK.


Any comments, thoughts plea

What ever that is Gary; I don’t think it is a Schrade Cut Co.

The Schrade Cut Co stamp looked like this:

SCHRADE
CUT. CO.
WALDEN, N.Y.

There were earlier curved stamps, but none that I have seen ever spelled out the word “CUTLERY.”

I am by no means an expert on bone jigging patterns, but I don’t recognize that jigging pattern. Perhaps Dimitri recognizes it.

The way the bone is hafted to meet the bolsters does not look like a Schrade either. It looks like they made a quick pass over the bolsters and let the edge of the wheel hit the bone and called it good. It is much more work to make the bone taper evenly down to the bolster.

This looks like a quick job to me. My guess is it was probably a contract knife made in Germany, but that is just my first impression without spending a lot of time studying the knife.

I have seen German, Czechoslovakian, and a few English knives with that jigging style, and the English ones were imports from Germany.
