All About Pocket Knives

After agreeing to do repairs for KA-BAR on vintage folders I have been getting a few in. Here are a couple of the most recent ones.

This T29 fish knife was in rough shape, scratched up blade, melted front handle, broken stone, weak snap, broken hook degorger, mangled rear bolster ect. The knife belonged to the gentleman's great grandfather and he uses it while fishing to this day. I cleaned it up, put on an original front handle w/ stone, repaired and reattched the rear bolster, improved the snap, and retipped the hook degorger





This Lockback swinguard didn't come with a story but it was requested I clean it and fix the terribly bent lockbar that was affecting lockup.



And just for fun, a Schrade Hunters Pride made for sears (craftsman) with smooth orange composition handles, it just needed a set of replacement guards which are nearly impossible to find so I make my own reproductions.

Yeah, not too much additional work but just enough to fill in the gaps.

It isn't like I just dropped the reins (although I don't think you were implying that I did). I asked Kaleb if he would take-over the Kabar repairs for a couple of months so I could get caught-up after announcing my retirement from knife repair. If he didn't like it I was willing to take it back, but honestly I'm glad he decided it didn't add so much to his work load that he wanted to give it back. Now I can finish up the few knives I still have on my plate then really break the chain between me and the workbench.

So now when you read that paragraph on Kabar's web site that says that they don't have a repair department and will recommend a competant independant repairman, they will give you Kaleb's information instead of mine. Those arrangements were made and agreed upon by me, Kaleb and Kabar's Senior Engineer before the ladies that field the calls were given Kaleb's information. In short, it was an orderly transition agreed upon by all concerned, but my idea because of my failing eyesight and limited hours I can spend in the shop.

This isn't in "defense" of your post Robert (you're too nice a guy for me to believe you meant anything was "dropped"). Just a run-down of how Kabar Repair went from me to Muskrat Man. Seeing this work just makes me feel more comfortable about leaving that responsibility in Kaleb's capable hands.
