All About Pocket Knives

I was supposed to stripe this bike on Friday but the clear hadn't been sanded yet.The customer wanted the stripes buried under the clear coat so it took an extra day to prep.
The parts were brought to me on Saturday morning and after spilling my morning coffee all over the shop and getting another striping commenced.
Although it's hard to tell the color of the bike is dark metallic green with gold pearl over it.The striping was done in Ivory and Emerald Green which provides a nice complement to the base color.I'll post some pictures when I get copies of the assembled bike.
The other piece is the start of an idea I've had for some time.Scattered over the car are various tributes to artists whom I've admired or known and have since passed on.I wanted to condense these names into one easily readable item.
Using an area on the right front fender that had a slanted design already there,I converted part of it to a design that resembles an unfurling scroll.It is title the Scroll of Sorrow and when finished will have artists names with the birth and death dates.
I am also finalizing the design of a panel that will have the same information and hopefully be displayed at various charity art auctions around the country.Just my way of remembering old friends.
Someone on another board asked me if it would ever be finished.I replied that when I pass on hopefully whomever gets my car will continue the tradition.The panel will definitely live on and be updated.

Here's a couple of pictures of a 1933 Diamond T truck I just finished striping and lettering.Only used 1 color as we were doing a replica of a Caterpillar maintenance truck and that was how it was done back in the day.It still needs re-assembly and the crew is working on it non-stop to try and have it finished for a truck show this weekend.
The next project for him is a stripe and lettering job on a 1934 International Harvester crew-cab truck slightly bigger than the Diamond T.Supposedly the only survivor of a dozen or so that were originally built.Ten years in restoration.

I love the look of those old trucks from the '30s. If money were no object...

Can`t beat the old trucks, I use to drive an old Mack B model like this one.

Actually that mark was created and used by the person who is considered to be the Father of modern pinstriping:Kenneth Howard aka Von Dutch.He was a bit eccentric and not only a great sign painter but also a proficient gunsmith and knife maker.He died about 11 years ago but his legend will live on forever. Sadly his family sold the rights to use his name and the people who bought it used it to create a line of trendy clothing that all the Hollywood types were nuts over for awhile.Thankfully THAT has died.
A lot of his personal stuff was sold at an auction several years ago and the prices were unreal! His old bus that he used as a workshop/home that was almost completely gutted sold for over $150,000 and his paint kit that had originally been his dad's sold for over a quarter of a MILLION dollars! Other items such as hand tools with his mark on them were selling for 2 and 3 thousand.
I have a friend who has one of his knives and I've tried buying it but he refuses to sell it.The last one I saw sold for over 10 grand.If you want to read a really interesting history;Google his full name.
Here is a picture of one of them.If you look closely,you can see a rendition of the flying eyeball just about the front circle on the handle.
