All About Pocket Knives

Is there a way to remove or lessen tarnish/patina on a blade without using an abrasive that will remove the grind?

I am talking about carbon steel.

I really like SOS pads, Cutty. The soap has a degreaser and rust remover. And the 0000 steel wool is fine enough to control just how much you remove without leaving heavy scratches or removing the dark patina on carbon steel. Once I get it soaped up good, I use a toothbrush and Q-Tips to clean out between the liners. Rinse with clean water and blow it out with compressed air. Reoil and it just looks like a well kept knife.

Very fine abrasives like Brasso and Flitz aren't harsh enough to mess with the grind marks either.

Here's the knife that I have the question about. I have already used 0000 lightly and flitz with a buffing wheel. I was hoping to clean it up a bit. I guess that with use the patina will even out? I am not trying to clean it up to sell. It's a keeper for EDC. I just wanted to make the blades more even.

any help on tarnish on the metal and brass parts, they are greening?

Where are you storing these knives? That is ALOT of Verdi Gris. Most of the time, that will just wipe off. For more stubborn tarnish, maybe Flitz or Brasso.

Do not store knives in leather for long periods of time. The acids in the leather will react with those metals.

Thanks for the info .These are part of an inheritance and they were in an old ammo box in a garage. I will take better care I think!

on the folders in the lower photo..i would use "Never Dull".
it is a form of gun cotton, will whipe that green off the brass quicktime...
get it at the local auto parts stores.

Try Hoppe's #9 gun cleaning solvent. It is supposed to work very quickly.
