One for Jerry

Jerry contacted me about a redo on this TL-29:
His cousin had given it to him, and he wanted to do something special with it and give it back to him. He had some specific requests; His cousin had engraved his last name on the back spring and the screwdriver blade, and I was not to mess with those at all. He wanted longer bolsters, with some threading and crimping. He also wanted the screwdriver blade re-profiled to a sheepsfoot. Here are some in-progress pics:
And here is the finished product:
I did have a mishap with the bone scales Jerry had provided. I ended up shattering one side.

So I picked out some nice Catalina jigged Amber and ran with that. This was a challenging project for me, and I thank Jerry for pushing my skills. It was an honor to do this for him.

I'm still gape mouthed over the final product. Thanks for showing the progress pictures Glenn. That's just the icing on the cake for me. I can't thank you enough for doing this for me (or should I say for my cousin even though he has no idea this is going on.)

Jerry, how long ago did your cousin give you the knife?
He has a real treat coming for sure! Nice gesture.

Joe, I don't remember exactly (or even inexactly) but I think it's been at least a year. I'm on pins and noodles. He lives three hours south of me so it's not like I can just pop in and give it to him. I hope they get to come by today or tomorrow.

You guys are too much with the nice comments... but thank you!
If I am getting better at this, it is because of all the other excellent mechanics on this site that have inspired me. I am just honored to play in their yard.

This is a statement on the general human condition and pointed at no one in particular!
What is it about Americans (or is it just people in general)? Ever notice they seem to think they should be experts the very first time they try something? The old folks had it right. A ten year apprenticeship under the tutelage of a master and then you might be ready to strike out on your own. Oh, no. Not today's people. Hand them a paint brush and a canvas and they're devastated if their first painting isn't a master.
Education is only one step to becoming a master but there are some who forget about EXPERIENCE and think education is the only step. Go get yourself a PhD in flocking wallpaper and you should be able to hang it like you popped out of the womb doing it.
All right. Shuttin' up now boss. Thanks for your patience.

Well I can't take full credit for the design on the bolsters. That pattern is very close to the one that Saw Filer did. Jerry liked it and wanted me to try it. I think his version was much nicer, BTW.

Thanks. That's what I'm shooting for. I know I'll hit the wall at some point, but as long as it's still fun for me, I'll keep challenging myself.

Maybe you shouldn't have said that Glenn because I have several "challenges" for you.
One is exactly the same as that beauty you did for my cousin only add bottom bolsters and this one I keep.

It will be a while. I have to get the correct knife for the project. Right now, I'm thinking
maybe Camillus.
