All About Pocket Knives

I have a chance to get some pieces of American Chestnut boards. I know little about it except most American Chestnut was killed off long ago in a blight. The boards being offered to me are very old. Has anyone used this wood for handle material or would it even be suitable for that? Please let me know your experiences or thoughts.

Canal Street used it on some knives. Like any other porous material, it would work better if it were stabilized. Take a peek over here -- http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... =2&t=30708

GEC has used some. It makes for neat handles given the history of the wood, however it's typically straight grianed and not known for fantastic figure.

Thanks guys Guess I will give it a try, especially since its free. If I get some handles to turn out I will post.

If you have ever used Oak for handles , you will find that Chestnut has very similar properties .
