All About Pocket Knives

Thought I'd post a hello here. Pretty new to the Schrade thing, I've take a few in on trade, an Old timer 1040t, and own an Old timer 30t lockback. I use the lockback in my EDC rotation, and gotta say I'm growing fond of the Schrade name.

My most recent Schrade from a trade, I'm not sure about, it appears to be a Barlow pattern Schrade Scrimshaw knife, an SC 506. Mine has the box, and appears new, but surely doesnt have any paperwork with it, like some I have seen go at auctions. I'm undecided as to whether it stays or goes back into the trade pile. I must admit, it appears to be a pretty well built knife.

Any of you fellas got a comment on the Scrimshaw stuff? Looking to learn.

Nice Barlow!
The Schrade scrimshaw was done by using a hot die to stamp the handle then the ink was applied in the impression from the die.

It is different from true scrimshaw where the pattern is scribed or scratched into the ivory or bone and then inked with India ink.

The Schrade Scrimshaw series is very popular yet today and they still bring a good price on ebay.

Can I assume that these are just Delrin, invory colored? Seems like most everything was from Schrade, that's been in my small collection. They sure feel that way.

Correct, they are Delrin.

Don't quit posting pictures just because they come in upside down! From what I have seen, you actually post some great ones and I appreciate the pictures as I am sure all of our AAPK members do!

Welcome to AAPK and the Schrade family.......there are a few of us here that really like the Schrades, myself included. They are great knives for being hardware and dime store knives.....hahahaha.

Just kidding about the hardware, dime store stuff"........I am an avid Schrade USA collector and I actually have quite a few.

Some of the "scrimshaw" Delrin knives are very attractive. They did make a few that were NOT Delrin. There is a set issued by American Express, featuring American presidents, which were done in Micarta. And I have a daddy barlow in bone with a scrim of Peter Stuyvessant, which I currently believe is GENUINE scrimshaw, done the old way. And there was a set of knives featuring ships and whales, which was issued by IXL when they were owned by Schrade. As I recall, I have seen a 167 fillet knife done up in bone, which is really lovely. It was posted on the "other" Schrade forum.
