Hi there! Are you talking about peening the outside (scale side) or inside (liner side) of the pins? I use a ball peen to make a nice round head on the outside, then use a tack hammer with the cross peen to peen a flat head to pull everything together. We can further evaluate this if you still need help!

Thanks for the quick reply. After you mushroom the pin do you slide the pin thru the liner side then cut the pinleaving a little on the handle side then lay the liner on your vice and start peening the handle side. Sorry if I sound stupid, as far as the rest of the assembly of the knife I have a pretty good idea, It's just the handle pins I'm not sure of. I really appreciate the help, I'm getting ready to start on my first knife It's a case xx usa congress knife. I'd like to hear of any do's or dont's before I get started on it.

You don't sound stupid, you won't know unless you ask questions. :) First I muskroom a head on a piece of pin stock, slide it though the handle and liner so the head is on the handle side, then cut it, flatten it and use a cross peen hammer to peen a flat head on the liner side, make sure it is flush to the liner so the tang of the blade dosen't rub it when closing the knife. You may want to reference the sticky here about dismantling and reassembling a slipjoint knife, part if it explains how I peen the heads and in what order I do so. If you have anymore questions just ask :)
